昔、あるベテラン編集者が、編集後記にこういうことを書いていました。

「マンガ家は、１０年続いて一人前、２０年続けば天才、３０年やってる人はバケモノだ」

俺はマンガ家ではないので、なんとか２５年やっていますけれども、文筆業で４０歳、５０歳越える人を見ると「どうかしてる」と思います。ましてやマンガ家の生活は過酷なんてものではないですから、２０年続けば天才だというあの編集者の言葉は、リアルな実感としてわかります。
